As a lifestyle, family, and motherhood photographer serving moms across the greater Northern Virginia region, I'm always chasing locations that feel like they were made for storytelling — and Salubria Mansion delivers in every direction you turn.


Tucked into the rolling hills of Culpeper County, just an hour and a half away from Washington, D.C., the stately manor has wide open fields, lush gardens, and picturesque rooms that offer a stunning backdrop to motherhood portraits. Here are some key highlights of the location:


  • The historic architecture. The mansion's Georgian facade creates the kind of timeless backdrop that offers texture and contrast to your photos.


  • The rolling grounds. With 200 acres of open fields, mature trees, and long grassy paths, there's no shortage of soft, dreamy backdrops for walking shots, and golden-hour silhouettes.


  • The light. Spring afternoons at Salubria bring warm, low sunlight that pours across the fields — the kind of light that turns a simple blue dress into something ethereal.

moments that made the session


I was lucky enough to photograph a mama-to-be with her husband in the property. We were able to shoot within the manor, as seen by the classic architecture framing her and her growing belly.


We were also able to walk around outside and play a bit with posed and unposed shots. I had a ton of fun shooting this day, but some of my favorite frames from the day weren't posed at all — a hand resting instinctively on the belly, a quick laugh between the mom and dad to be, a quiet smile aimed unintentionally at me or somewhere beyond the camera after I give them a silly cue.


That's the heart of what I love about maternity photography: capturing not just what a mama looks like in this season, but how it feels — the anticipation, the stillness, the strength.

planning your own northern virginia session

  • A planning call. This is where we get the chance to talk about what you’re envisioning for your shoot, and we can lay out some ideas for outfits for you and the family.
  • Identifying the best time to shoot. Scheduling your session for the last couple of hours before sunset gives us that soft, warm light; but I’m also happy to work with you if you have certain restrictions on when to shoot. Keep in mind that the best times are either around sunrise, or sunset.
  • Keeping it simple. My focus is on you and your growing family! I’ll have a few posed portraits, but I’m also happy to have a TON of candid, in-between moments. That’s where the magic happens.
