the magic of in-home sessions



Some of the best photos aren't necessarily all in dreamy fields or historic gardens — they're in the everyday spaces where real life actually happens. This in-home session with a mama and her toddler son is a perfect example. No elaborate outfits, no big location, just their own living room, their own light, and their own little person doing exactly what toddlers do best: living completely in the moment.


There's a reason in-home sessions have become one of my favorite things to shoot. When a family is in their own space, something shifts. The nerves that can creep in on location melt away, and what's left is just... real life. The toddler in this session wasn't posing for a camera — he was climbing into his mom's lap because that's what he does every morning, tugging at her sleeve mid-laugh, burying his face in her neck the way toddlers do when the world gets to be a little too much and they just need their mama.


That's the whole point. These are the moments that are impossible to recreate on demand, and they're exactly the moments most worth keeping.

We moved through the home the way their morning would naturally unfold — snuggled up on the couch with a favorite book, chasing each other down the hallway, a quiet moment at the window with the soft morning light pouring in. A toddler doesn't sit still for long, and I don't try to make him. Instead, we let him take the lead: the belly laugh when mom scoops him up, rolling around in bed, and the playful exchange between him and his mom.
